The late Sr. Caoline Veronica Afandi was born on 26/4/1994 to the family of Mr. Absalom Malongo Mandala and Mrs. Jesca Munagi Malongo of Chandolo Village, Lusiola Sub-location, Vihiga Sub-location in Vihiga county.

The late Sr. Caroline started her Nursery School at the age of 6 years at Chandolo Primary School where she studied and did her K.C.P.E in 2008. She then joined St. Clare Maragoli Girls Secondary School – Hambale in 2009 until 2011 when she left after completing her Form three. She then proceeded to Vigina High School where she sat for K.C.S.E in 2012.

The late Sr. Caroline got to interact with the sisters first when she joined St. Clare’s Maragoli Girls Secondary School. She admired their way of life and developed a desire to joined them. She started doing Catechism and she was baptized on 1/4/2013 by Rev. Fr. Conrad Otende at Hambale Catholic Church. She joined the family of Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph on 30/4/2013. She was confirmed on 4/8/2013 at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church – Asumbi by Most Rev. Bishop Philip A. Anyolo, who was at the time the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Homa Bay. She made her first profession on 8/12/2017 after which she was posted to St. Clare-D, Langata in Nairobi.

The late Sr. Caroline was a humble person since her childhood. She always wears a smile in her face and never grumble. She was prayerful, hardworking and committed to any duty given to her. She was a good singer and loved singing.

The late Sr. Caroline Veronica Afandi was a young, strong, youthful and heath person until 30/6/2018 when she was involved in a tragic road accident at Kaplong – Bomet road which claimed the lives of two other sisters. She was rushed to Kaplong Mission Hospital where she was attended and transferred to Tenwek Mission Hospital. She was later Air-lifted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi for further management. She sustained severe head and spinal injuries that rendered her incapable of walking and speaking.

When her condition stabilized she was taken to Christamarianne Mission Hospital for care, where she has been since 4/9/2018 and occasionally, she would be taken to Matter Hospital for specialized treatment.

With time she developed other complications, her breathing system started malfunctioning and she was put for a tracheotomy tube to aid smooth air exchange and when she could no longer easily feed, a mastectomy feeding tube was inserted to aid in feeding.

In the last two months she became anaemic requiring blood transfusion and she succumb to heart failure on 26/3/2021 at 3.40 p.m.
